Welcome Babies! Our infant room is where we have the pleasure of welcoming most of our families to Arbour Glen, and where we help you and your little one experience a gentle transition into this sometimes unknown territory.
Our top priority is to provide a nurturing environment that focuses on getting to know you and your baby and developing a meaningful relationship with them. Your baby remains on their own personal feeding, eating and sleeping schedule (if such a thing exists at this age!) when they arrive, which allows us to respond with sensitivity to your child's signals. Our Educators implement an emergent curriculum that reflects the interests of the infants, and encourages optimal growth in all areas of development. And of course, hugs and cuddles are always on the agenda!
But don’t think you’re going to miss out on the fun! We take lots of photos that document babies busy at play, and we record their milestones in a portfolio you’ll receive once your baby moves on to Toddlers. Each day, we post the exciting things we've been up to (here's an example), in addition to an individual write-up informing you of your baby's day. This includes when they've eaten and slept, and a special note to share something fun about their day. Our Educators take time to welcome you at the beginning of each day and hear about how your little one’s night went, will share interesting updates, answer any questions, and provide other information again at pick-up times.
Before your baby starts with us, you will come in for a visit to get to know our room and Educators, and so they can get to know you. Tell us everything! Does she prefer blue balls over red? Like his bananas mashed instead of sliced? We want to hear it all so we can make them (and you!) feel at home from the start. We also welcome any and every question and encourage you to call and check in as often as you'd like. We want you to feel connected to their day. Meet Our Infant Room Educators
Our Infant room has up to 10 children, who are up to the age of 18 months, with 3 Registered Early Childhood Educators.
"When I picked up my little guy on one of his first days with Arbour Glen, Chris was singing him the ABC song, while he sat contentedly in her arms. She said (happily!) that it was her tenth time singing it – she said she discovered in that moment, it was what gave him comfort. It almost brought me to tears: knowing they will do anything to give him what he needed in that moment of sadness. You really feel like your baby is the centre of their world – what more can a mom ask for?
Amazing women - they made the transition into daycare super smooth. They love my son, and vice versa!!
Thank you all for the passion you bring to work each day. Our son is very happy at Arbour Glen and he loves his teachers and all the great activities you organize for him.
When your little one is about 18 months, they will transition to one of our Toddler rooms, where they will have the opportunity to explore their budding independence and enjoy some exciting new adventures.
Our focus here is on building self-confidence and security through developing warm relationships with both playmates and our caring Registered Early Childhood Educators in a loving and safe environment, where our children are comfortable to explore, learn and master new things. They will enjoy having a consistent yet flexible routine that gives them the security that Toddlers love. A typical day starts with the opportunity to participate in a creative art activity (finger-painting anyone?) or sensory experiences (let’s dig for dinosaurs!). Other fun includes sing-a-longs, story times, dramatic play, block play, puzzles, toys and general exploring of other materials that promote optimal development. We introduce basics like numeracy through counting games, literacy through stories, finger-plays and puppets, and discover other concepts such as nature, turn-taking, sharing and recognizing our feelings. Weather permitting, we’re outside to have more fun on our special toddler climber, in our sandbox cove or with our riding toys.
At Arbour Glen, we have 2 Toddler Classrooms with up to 15 children between the ages of 18-30 months in each one, and 3 Registered Early Childhood Educators in each room.
I was bathing my son one evening when he was around 2, and he was playing with these foam block letters. Suddenly, he started singing the alphabet - the whole thing, correctly!! I started freaking out, calling for my husband to get the camera, while my little guy sat amused at my reaction. :) He learned that at Arbour Glen - something that I would have thought beyond a 2 year old's abilities! The teachers are special people: they really bring out your child's potential, which is often so much greater than you might expect.
We feel so fortunate to have our children at Arbour Glen! The staff feels like an extension of our family. You truly are a group of gifted people. Thank you for what you do every day!
We have had a wonderful experience at Arbour Glen. We leave our children there, confident that they are safe, well cared for and loved. The staff at Arbour Glen is what makes the centre as amazing as it is. It doesn't feel like a big 'centre', but a second home for our kids, with caregivers who really care.
Exciting new challenges and lots of fun adventures! That’s what your child will enjoy when around two and a half, they move to one of our Preschool Rooms.
Here, our Educators plan an environment that invites opportunities for free choices for your child to continue on their journey of building self-esteem, enhancing their social, emotional and physical well-being, as well as developing their thinking skills to plan, problem-solve, negotiate and evaluate through play. Literacy and numeracy are also strong components of our program. You child will learn the skills that will set a solid foundation for their future successes, and make the transition to 'big school' as seamless as possible.
Not only that, but we love to expand our exploring beyond our cool rooms and great play yard! We take neighbourhood walks to search for signs of spring, and enjoy seasonal field trips to local spots like the splashpads and Appleland. In the summer, we have a special outdoor program under the sugar maples in our playground to take advantage of the beautiful weather. We pull out our pools for splashing, dig for treasures in our sandbox, ride bikes and have fun on our unique climber. Once a month we visit Kensington Village Seniors' Home on Huron Street, to sing songs and chat with residents, where it's hard to tell who is having more fun! To stay energized for our busy days, our children rest their bodies or take a nap after a nutritious and delicious hot lunch each day. An "Early Risers" program is offered for those who are transitioning out of nap time.
When your child leaves Arbour Glen, you will receive a portfolio that includes their beautiful artwork, documentation of their emerging skills, photos and other special mementos and milestones from their time with us. They will take this, along with lasting friendships, wonderful memories, and the strength of character and confidence that their time at Arbour Glen helped to foster on that next big step. And remember to come back and visit! Warm hugs will always be waiting for them from their friends at Arbour Glen.
At Arbour Glen, we have 2 Preschool Groups with up to 16 children between 30 months and 4 years in each. There are 2 Registered Early Childhood Educators in each room.
